Fiberglass Boom Replacements
The only two options for a replacement boom are the Original Manufacturer and PCC.
Advantages of Using Original Manufacturer
- Designed and made the original boom; however, PCC reverse engineers the boom by determining the laminate (raw material composition) used in the original boom and designing a laminate to perform as well or better
- May have a boom in stock or can get it sooner,
- PCC does not manufacture round booms.
Advantages of Using PCC
- Made the first ever fiberglass boom for any bucket truck and has been making booms continuously since 1959.
- Will make a replacement on the original steel if it is not damaged. Most OEMs require use of new steel, thus unnecessarily increasing the cost to the customer.
- The price of the fiberglass itself is usually significantly lower from PCC than from the OEM. All OEMs, regardless of the product, make their profits on replacement parts.
- Every PCC upper boom is both dielectrically and structurally tested. OEMs dielectrically test every boom, but only structurally test the boom in connection with the structural test of the overall aerial lift.
- May be able to get it sooner.
- Every boom is permanently serialized and production records maintained.
